On November 10, Avinor and Finavia successfully launched cross border Air Traffic Services across the border of Finland and Norway, where Kirkenes Tower/Approach is now providing the services in parts of Finnish Airspace. The arrangement facilitates more efficient and safe flight operations for flights in and outbound Kirkenes Airport in Northern Norway serving the interests of airspace users.

From April 2017, Widerøe will commence direct flights between Avinor Oslo Airport and Lofoten and inner Helgeland. These new flights are in addition to the established direct routes to Sandnessjøen and Brønnøysund. A direct route to Stokmarknes in Vesterålen is also being introduced for the mid-summer programme.

Avinor’s Stavanger Airport has announced an enhancement to its route network with new airline partner, airBaltic. Set to commence on 2 May 2017, Latvia’s flag carrier will be operating a thrice-weekly service to Riga, using its fleet of 76-seat Bombardier’s Q400s NextGen aircraft.

Negotiations between NHO Service and Parat have broken down, and if arbitration is unsuccessful, the result will be a strike at Oslo Airport starting from 06:00 hours on Friday, 10 June. If the strike materialises, Oslo Airport will be shut down for all departing passengers effective from 06:00 hours on Friday, 10 June.

Air traffic at Avinor's airports increased by 2.7 per cent, while the operating result comprised NOK 71 million in Q1 2016, compared to NOK 143 million for the same period last year. Avinor's modernisation programme is on schedule, with a goal of annual savings of NOK 600 million from 2018. In 2017 the expansions of Bergen Airport and Oslo Airport will be completed.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines today launched a series of around 80 biofuel flights from Oslo to Amsterdam operated with an EMBRAER 190. The flights are marking yet another step in the right direction towards phasing in jet biofuel in the aviation industry.
